Tourist Places near Delhi - Jaipur

Jaipur is the closest major city to Delhi. Jaipur, also known as “The Pink City”, was once the capital of the princely state of Jaipur, and is now the capital of the state of Rajasthan. This royal city was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, a Rajput ruler who ruled from 1699 – 1744. He planned the city on the principals of Vaastushastra, a treatise based on ancient Indian architectural beliefs.
The city was not splattered with pink at that time, but, in 1853, when the Prince of Wales visited Jaipur during the regime of Sawai Ram Singh, the whole city was painted pink to welcome him. Even today, even after a century – and – a – half, pink is the predominant colour on the city landscape.
