Places to visit in Delhi - Humayun's Tomb

Humayun’s tomb is located in Nizamuddin East area of South Delhi. It is the first garden tomb to be built on the Indian Subcontinent.
The tomb is a complex consisting of various structures. It started out as a tomb for the second Mughal Emperor Humayun, and was built on the orders of his wife Hamida Banu Begum, the construction started in 1562 and was finally completed in 1571.
The main tomb was placed in the centre of a 30 acre Charbagh Garden, a Persian style quadrilateral garden. Several structure were added to the complex during the Mughal era. The complex now has graves of Hamida Banu Begum, Dara Shikoh, Jahandar Shah, Farrukhsiyar, Rafi – Ul – Daryat, Alamgir II, which were all later Mughals.
The complex is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Another important structure that one can find in the near vicinity is the Nizamuddin Dargah, mausoleum of sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, who was highly revered by the Mughals.
